Johnny was killed on April 12, 1945. He and his 11 member crew were test flying a brand new B-29 plane brought in from Atlanta the day before. He took it up in the air and turned it over gently. The small tail on the left of the rear of the plane flew off and the plane spun into the ground, killing Johnny and his entire 11 member crew. See also obituary in Media.
Johnny is buried at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, 5505 NW 3rd. St. Miami, FL 33126 in downtown Miami. Momma and Poppa and little Juli are buried with him there.
